  • 12 to 16 pieces ragi crackers or enough to fan one side
  • 10 to 14 pieces baked methi mathri
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups chivda homemade or store-bought
  • 8 to 12 pieces chakli or chakri broken into snackable lengths if large
  • 1 cup roasted makhana optional

Dry fruits and nuts

  • 1/2 cup mixed dried fruit raisins, chopped dates, apricots
  • 1/2 cup prepared dry fruit mix optional

Fresh fruit and veg

  • 1 cup seedless grapes or mixed berries
  • 1 apple or pear thinly sliced; toss with lemon
  • 1 small cucumber sliced into rounds
  • 2 small carrots cut into sticks
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate arils

Optional chaat accent

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups avocado bhel assemble just before serving

Garnish

  • fresh coriander leaves
  • lemon wedges
  • pinch chaat masala or black salt optional, for fruit-veg corner

Instructions

Prep the components

  • Make or thaw dips ahead (morning of, or 1 day before). Chill until assembly. Stir before spooning into bowls so they look glossy, not separated.
  • Portion snacks into bowls or piles so you are not opening bags over the board. Keep chivda and chakli airtight until the last 10 minutes so they stay crisp.
  • Wash and dry fruit and vegetables. Slice apple or pear and toss with a little lemon juice. Pat cucumber and grapes dry so the board does not get watery.

Assemble the board

  • Place 2 to 3 dip bowls on the board first, spaced apart. Leave room to scoop without knocking crackers into the yogurt.
  • Add the crunchy snack zones: fan ragi crackers along one edge, stack mathri opposite, and pour chivda and chakli into two clear pockets. Keep them away from juicy fruit.
  • Fill gaps with dry fruits and nuts in small mounds. Nestle fresh fruit and veg in the remaining spaces for color.
  • If using avocado bhel, add it in a small bowl or leaf cup last so the poha stays crisp.
  • Scatter pomegranate arils and a few coriander leaves. Tuck lemon wedges near the yogurt dips. Serve right away with chai, or cover loosely and serve within 30 to 60 minutes.

Notes

Yogurt dips, raita, and hummus keep 1 to 2 days airtight in the fridge; stir before serving.
Ragi crackers and mathri keep 1 to 2 weeks in an airtight tin; refresh 3 minutes in a low oven if soft.
Keep chivda and chakli sealed until assembly so they stay crisp; store leftovers airtight for several days.
Assemble the full board 30 to 60 minutes before guests. Refresh crackers if the room is humid.
For take-home gifts, pack dry fruit or mathri in jars separately; do not pack wet dips in a closed gift box.
